I made some custom brushes in Photoshop trying to replicate charcoal and conte, these are just some early tests put on paper textures. I wanted the brush to act like the side of a conte stick so I could block in a form and still have lots of texture show through.

Very nice, the brushes are looking very successful. The hippo in particular is looking very natural. I think what throws off the other two are the black-blacks. Otherwise the texture feels about right.
I always know it's good when I get your 'thumbnails' right off-the-bat. Always enjoy your posts...
Can i have this brushes ?
love 'em
Beautiful work and brushes. I'd be willing to pay a buck or two for that goodness.
I think these drawings are very beautiful and the charcoal are convincing!
If you want I can send you some brushes I have that remember charcoal too.
Those are stunning man... WOW.. Im absolutely blown away by the charcoal feel too.. brilliant!
Hi Andrew,
Those drawings are amazingly beautiful. So much expression! Really nice. You should try Tvpaint software though. I, myself coming from a Fine Arts background, find it's always hard to get that beauty of the paper and charcoal on digital. However, I'm working now on a production that uses that software and the amount of texture and control that you get on your brushes is the closest thing I've ever seen to actual oil on canvas or charcoal over paper. I wish I could show you something, but you know how this things works. :) Anyways, I love what you did with those brushes.
Waiting for you next post!
Nice!!!

justin: You're right, your comment makes a lot of sense in that real conte or charcoal doesn't get that solid black....thanks for pointing that out.
